Mat Yurow

Chief of Staff & Head of Strategy, Wirecutter, The New York Times

Mat Yurow is responsible for helping The New York Times connect commerce and content. He is currently the Chief of Staff and Head of Strategy at Wirecutter, a product recommendations site acquired by The Times in 2017. In this capacity, Mat oversees strategic planning across the company, bringing together editorial strategy, product development and revenue operations. 


Prior to joining Wirecutter, Mat held director-level roles in the Product and Marketing departments of The New York Times, focused on driving subscription revenue through Product and Marketing innovation. He has also held roles in marketing, product and editorial at AOL, The Huffington Post, and Bloomberg News. 

Sam Rosen

Head of Growth, The Atlantic Media

Sam Rosen leads growth for The Atlantic, where he focuses on brand strategy, consumer revenue, and data and insights. Previously, he helped form and build Atlantic Re:think, the publisher’s content studio and creative marketing group. In the past, Sam served as vice president of the Strategy & Content practice for DigitasLBi, and also founded his own branded content agency. Sam got his start in the social sector, leading award-winning programs and campaigns that advocated for national community service. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in political science, and still flirts with the idea of using it someday.

Dominik Grau

Chief Innovation Officer, Ebner Media Publishing Group

Dominik is the Chief Innovation Officer of the Ebner Media Group. Ebner is a 200-year old family-held German media company with 80+ magazines and 40+ websites that reach an audience of 10 million readers in 11 countries. From 2011 to 2015 Dominik served as Ebner’s international managing director in New York where the team transformed the formerly print-focused business unit into one of the world's leading category media platforms across four continents. From 2007 to 2011 Dominik was an online director at IDG, the world’s no. 1 tech media company. There he led the digital b2c business in Germany with a portfolio of some of the country’s largest tech websites. His team won IDG’s best practice award. Prior to IDG Dominik worked as an editor-in-chief for content marketing at Burda, a top 5 media company in Germany. He also began his career at Burda as an author, trainee and news editor until. During his career Dominik has won more than 15 global awards and nominations.

Wu Chen

Managing Director, The Economist Global Business Review, Shanghai

Mr. Wu Chen is the Managing Director of The Economist Global Business Review, based in Shanghai. Prior to that, he was the Head of Editorial (Asia Pacific), EuroFinance. He has been the Editor of CFO China from 2005 to 2009. In his journalism career, he has worked for BusinessWeek in Hong Kong, Bloomberg News in Singapore, and the international news department of Xinhua (New China) News Agency in Beijing.


Mr.Wu has a wide range of research interests. He follows closely key trends in technology, such as AI, big data, automation, and their impact on business, the driving force behind innovation, and management best practice, just to name a few.


Mr. Wu holds the Master of Pacific International Affairs degree from School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS), University of California, San Diego and the Master of Journalism from E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. He earned his B.A. from Beijing Foreign Studies University.


As an illustration of journalistic achievement, Mr. Wu’s story on the problems involved in the process of manufacturing sector transformation in July 2008 won the Society of Asia Publishers Excellence Awards for Business Reporting (2009).

Alan Soon co-founded The Splice Newsroom, a business intelligence service covering the transformation of media in Asia. Splice delivers insights into the shifting media trends through its reporting, newsletters, research and events. 

Alan is Asia’s leading expert on newsroom operations, digital transformation, and building the new business of media. He also advises early-stage media-tech startups. 

For more than twenty years, Alan has worked in radio, television, news wires, magazine, and online across Asia, giving him unique insight into how various newsrooms get things done—and where they get stuck. He started his career as a reporter and grew into other operational roles — producer, editor, newsroom manager — and eventually led one of the largest digital news teams in the industry as Yahoo’s Managing Editor for India and Southeast Asia. 

Alan is a regular speaker at international media conferences and the co-founder of the Online News Association in Singapore. He publishes “The Splice Slugs,” a closely followed newsletter on industry trends. 

Joshua Wilwohl

Producer, Automative Events

Joshua Wilwohl is a producer at Automotive Events, an adjunct professor of communication at Metropolitan College of New York and the founder of Simplify Ink. Previously, Wilwohl was the digital manager of The Cambodia Daily and a professor of digital media at Pannasastra University of Cambodia. He also worked as an editor and reporter at Quantum Communications,, The Star-Ledger and The New Jersey Herald. He has presented his work and ideas at the Digital Journalism World summits and the Interactive Digital News Design conference. He has a master's degree in online journalism from the Birmingham School of Media in the U.K.

Cyril Drouin

Chief E-Commerce Officer Greater China

Cyril Drouin is the Chief eCommerce Officer for Greater China at Publicis Communications. He is based in the Shanghai office, but he travels extensively for business, lectures, and trainings. Cyril runs the Publicis Commerce practice in China.


Cyril has more than 10 years eCommerce and Digital experience in China. Local and international companies came to rely on the eCommerce and digital marketing expertise Cyril used to create their successes in either optimizing or creating their digital & eCommerce presence in China.


So far, over 100 retailers, brands, manufacturers, and small business have benefited from his expertise on the entire lifecycle of an eCommerce project.  From its consulting and strategic phases to creative, marketing, media and monitoring performance.


Cyril is a regular well-respected speaker and trainer at various digital and eCommerce conferences. He hosts high-level training sessions about the Chinese eCommerce ecosystem in China and around the world.  Cyril is teaching eCommerce and Digital Marketing to executive MBA students as well.


Cyril holds a Master degree in IT & Mathematics. He is native in French and fluent in English, also has a good command of Chinese, so his trainings are attended by trainees from all walks of life in Chinese business.

Nicola Elliot

Head of Content, BBC Worldwide

Nicola Eliot is Head of Content for BBC creative advertising team ‘BBC StoryWorks’ for Asia. She studied marketing and psychology from St Andrews and Edinburgh universities, and married her education with her love of content and production 12 years ago when she began connecting beautiful content with brand messaging, and understanding how to achieve the maximum value for the audience as well as the brand.


In her current role with the BBC, Nicola leads the 12 member team in creating innovative and impactful solutions across TV, online and social media for brands on BBC platforms to reach the right audience, with the right stories to achieve awareness and growth in the APAC region. The BBC StoryWorks team provides a full creative service, with end to end ideation, brand and growth strategy, production and campaign management. Nicola has created content for over 100 advertisers on BBC platforms. 

Anjali Kapoor

Head of Digital Bloomberg Media, Asia Pacific

Anjali Kapoor is Head of Digital, Asia for Bloomberg Media, where she is responsible for overseeing the execution of Bloomberg's digital strategy in the region. Her team of digital editors based in Hong Kong work to unify Bloomberg’s powerful existing media assets – including Bloomberg News, Bloomberg Businessweek, Bloomberg Markets and Pursuits magazines, Bloomberg Television, Bloomberg Radio and original digital video - to deliver relevant stories for


Previously, Anjali was Director, Digital News Strategy at The Globe and Mail in Canada where she oversaw the digital editorial strategy from Singapore for more than three years. Before moving to Singapore, she was the Managing Editor, Digital for the publication in Canada, where she worked with senior management to shift the traditional newsroom into a digital culture. For more than two years, she oversaw a team of digital editors responsible for the running of The Globe and Mail on multiple platforms. 

Prior to The Globe and Mail, Anjali was Director of Product & Editorial at Yahoo! Canada where she was responsible for overseeing the overall content strategy and business goals of core digital products like Front Page, News, Finance, Lifestyle, Sports, Community and Video. 

Rishad Patel

Rishad Patel is a product and design professional. He is the cofounder of The Splice Newsroom.. For over twenty years, Rishad has designed and developed editorial products on the web, radio, advertising, newsrooms, newspapers, magazines, podcasting, branding, books, and floor rugs for companies like Mitsui Chemicals, Ogilvy, and HarperCollins, and institutions like MIT and ETH across Singapore, India, New Zealand, Europe, and the United States. He has been an editorial consultant at The Straits Times in Singapore, the Wanganui Chronicle in New Zealand, and Mid-Day in Mumbai. He was also a co-founder of an app startup in San Francisco; a public school startup in the SF Bay Area; and a Singapore-based fintech startup.
